🔵 EU LAUNCHES AI REGULATION OVERSIGHT OFFICE 🏛️: 

The European Union established a new office dedicated to implementing its landmark AI Act, one of the most comprehensive AI governance frameworks globally. With over 140 staff spanning technology experts, lawyers, economists and other specialists, the office will focus on promoting AI innovation while enforcing the risk-based regulations and safeguards mandated by the AI Act.

 

🔵 OPENAI'S NEW SAFETY OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE 🛡️: 

With the impending release of its next highly-capable AI model, OpenAI has formed a new Safety and Security Committee to provide recommendations within 90 days on critical decisions across all its projects. The committee's formation acknowledges the need for robust processes and safeguards as OpenAI pushes towards artificial general intelligence (AGI). After board review, OpenAI plans to publicly share adopted recommendations from the committee.

 

🔵 PRIVACY BACKLASH OVER MICROSOFT'S "RECALL" AI 🔍: 

Microsoft faced backlash and a potential investigation over privacy concerns around its new "Recall" AI feature. Part of the Co-Pilot AI interface, Recall takes screenshots of user activity every 5 seconds, raising worries about excessive surveillance and "chilling effects" on privacy according to experts.

 

🔵 xAI's MASSIVE FUNDING FOR AI DEVELOPMENT 💸: 

Elon Musk's new AI company xAI made waves by announcing a $6 billion Series B funding round. Founded by Musk after his departure from OpenAI in 2018, xAI claims this capital will help bring their first products like the ChatGPT competitor Grok to market, build infrastructure, and accelerate R&D into future AI technologies aimed at benefiting humanity. While Grok outperforms some models, it still trails behind systems like Claude, GPT-4, and Google's Gemini according to xAI's benchmarks.

 

🔵 AMD CHALLENGES NVIDIA IN AI CHIPS 💾: 

Semiconductor company AMD revealed new AI chip offerings to compete with market leader Nvidia, including the next-gen MI325X accelerator coming in Q4 2023. AMD CEO, Lisa Su, stated the company will release additional AI processors over the next two years to match top chips from Nvidia and others.

 

🔵 PERPLEXITY PAGES GENERATES WEB CONTENT 🌐: 

Perplexity AI launched a new tool called Perplexity Pages that instantly generates web pages like reports, guides and articles based on user prompts. The generated content pulls from real online sources that users can verify. Pages offers customization options to add text, images, videos and tweak layouts. It aims to simplify content creation for individuals and brands.

 

🔵 MISTRAL UNVEILS CODESTRAL FOR CODING ASSISTANCE 💻: 

Mistral released a new AI model called “Codestral” specifically designed for code generation across over 80 programming languages. Codestral can complete coding functions, write tests, reduce errors and bugs, and assist developers through an API integration. The multilingual model aims to empower coders and democratize software development.

 

🔵 OPENAI REBUILDS ROBOTICS EFFORTS 🤖: 

After disbanding its robotics team in 2020, OpenAI announced plans to reboot the initiative with the goal of supplying AI models to other companies working on robotics projects and products. The resurgent robotics team is part of OpenAI's broader strategy in AI development.
